In Like a Lion out Like a Lamb

This weather proverb about the month of March permeates much of the teaching materials received during the month of March. Many of the teachers use this phrase and have the children create art to decorate the bulletin boards. I’m not sure where the phrase came from, but I hope it holds true this year as we’ve certainly experienced “lion” weather for the ending of February and the beginning of March. A calm quiet weather pattern would be nice for the rest of the month.

For myself, I usually think of March as the beginning of mud season. The warmer air has a way of reducing our playground to a soft, squishy, mud, which of course the children love. Continuing to send snow pants and boots until the end of March will be very appreciated as they get out in the fresh air.

March also brings Saint Patrick’s Day, the first day of spring, and my personal favorite, Daylight Savings Time. There’s something about more sunlight that just lifts your spirit. It holds true, with the after school children being the most excited when they are able to say “I get to go home before dark!" Such a simple thing for us, but a great joy for them!
